Expert (Chitral)

Purpose: To preserve and promote traditional embroidery techniques by training local artisans in the creation of embroidered wooden trays.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver hands-on training in traditional embroidery techniques specifically adapted for wooden tray decoration.
• Share knowledge of local motifs, patterns, and colour palettes used in the embroidery.
• Guide trainees in selecting appropriate materials (wood, threads, dyes) that are locally sourced and sustainable.
• Teach techniques for preparing wooden trays for embroidery and finishing the completed product.
• Encourage creativity and innovation while staying true to the cultural heritage of Chitrali embroidery.
• Assess trainee progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Maintain a record of training activities and outcomes.
• Collaborate with project staff to ensure the smooth implementation of the program.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Extensive practical experience in embroidered wooden tray making.
• Deep knowledge of various embroidery techniques and their application to wooden surfaces.
• Familiarity with traditional embroidery designs and cultural context.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to train and mentor individuals with diverse skill levels.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of individual learners.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Fluency in required language(s) – Pashto and Farsi
