Job Purpose:

The Business Development & Communications Officer plays a vital role as a team member within the Business Development and Communications department.

 

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

 

Fundraising

  • Support to the Department Head in carrying out research, analysis, planning and implementation of fundraising activities
  • Support activities for donor and sponsor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Contribute in the preparation of proposals and reports for foundations, corporations, and individual donors.
  • Support events and other advisory committees and volunteer groups
  • Implement acknowledgement programs including issuing receipts, pledge invoices, thank you letters and notes, reporting, and information distribution
  • Maintain detailed and accurate donor and prospect database using fundraising software and other contact management tools, as well as hard copy files.

 Communications and Social Media

 

  • Gather primary materials and reformatting these according to the purpose required by the supervisor.
  • Oversee publications, media, website and social media

 General Duties

 

  • Maintain familiarity with DIL’s  history, goals, mission, values and programs
  • Ensure staff and partners are informed regarding Business Development and Communication activities
  • Regularly attend to own professional development and participate in training and learning opportunities

 

Education, qualification, skills and experience:

 

Education: (Formal degree)

Masters or BS degree in Mass Communications or Social Sciences

 

(Relevant) Experience:

2-3 years of relevant experience in development sector, preferably with an I/NGO

 

Skills:

  • Oral communication skills
  • Report writing skills
  • Strong analytical skills for qualitative and quantitative data

 

General

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to contribute to, and participate in a positive work environment, by presenting a positive and helpful demeanor utilizing good judgment, discretion, diplomacy, and sensitivity
  • Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
  • Highly motivated team player who prioritize projects and multiple tasks to ensure tight timelines are met
  • Demonstrates professionalism, flexibility, resourcefulness, adaptability and organizational commitment

 

Technical knowledge/ know how

 

  • Demonstrated success in design/layout/maintenance of communications (assets, social media, website)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite and variety of social media tools
  • Experience in database management (fundraising software in particular as asset).
