Purpose of the post

The communication officer will play a key role in positioning of the ICRC as one of the leading humanitarian actors working to ensure respect for the life and dignity of people affected by natural or man-made disasters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He/ she will drive and support the ICRC’s efforts to connect with relevant audiences in variety of ways including through face to face interactions, mass media, production and promotion of print and audio-visual material. The communication officer role will be responsible for designing, planning and implementing different communications projects and programmes, aimed at building the necessary acceptance and support for the ICRC.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works closely with the Communication Team Leader to implement the yearly plan of action and ensures integration of priority themes in to different departments.
  • Supports the Communication department in networking with relevant stakeholders and represents the ICRC to various audiences.
  • Responsible for analysis of the environment, especially on social, political, cultural, and humanitarian issues through publically available information sources.
  • Responsible for managing, organizing and distributing the communication stock and other dissemination/ promotional material.
  • Provides technical and administrative support to the communication team (e.g. filing, event organization, etc.) when required.
  • Translates documents and conversations from English into Urdu and vice versa and write articles for web.
  • Support in handling media relations and expertise/ experience in photography and videography and social media management.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bechelor's (4 years) or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as communications, political science, international relations, journalism and other related social sciences disciplines.
  • Minimum two years’ work experience in public relations/ communications.
  • Excellence in English language with an ability to create content in Urdu when required.
  • S/he is flexible in terms of working hours, able to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
