The Aga Khan Foundation (Pakistan) [AKF(P)] is seeking high caliber professional for the following Short Term Consultancy:
“Consultancy – Training of Health Workers on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN)”
I. Background and Context
Aga Khan Foundation Pakistan (AKF(P)) is executing a multi country Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) project in Pakistan – Access to Quality Care through Extending and Strengthening Health Systems (AQCESS). The project aims to improve MNCH outcomes, specifically women of reproductive age, men, girls and boys under the age of five (5). AQCESS is being implemented by Government Department of Health and local agencies that are institutional members of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). The programme seeks to accelerate the reduction of maternal and child mortality in targeted regions through focusing on three key components: improved delivery of essential MNCH health services; improved utilization of essential MNCH services by communities; and improved dissemination and use of MNCH information and evidence by key stakeholders in target regions.
To promote good nutrition practices, including breastfeeding, through the positive deviance method, Aga Khan Foundation (Pakistan) is seeking qualified Consulting Firm/ Consultant to conduct the following trainings in Gilgit and Chitral districts.
II. Main Responsibilities
The Consultant would be required to conduct training on MIYCN.
The specific tasks of the consultant will be:
- Provide health care providers and managers with the skills and knowledge necessary to promote, protect and support optimal MIYCN interventions as per the WHO guidelines.
- Build capacity of health workers and managers with knowledge and skills to correctly define, understand, monitor and report MIYCN indicators and track progress on performance.
- Train health care providers and managers on dietary needs during pregnancy and lactation, child development, preventing and managing childhood illnesses and dietary needs and nutrition, and healthy lifestyle for children.
- To build the capacity of health workers and managers on the need of growth monitoring and assessment, interpreting growth measurements and growth standard charts, importance of complementary food preparation using locally available ingredients and to support and counsel mothers and care givers.
- Evaluate and conduct Pre & Post Test to monitor training effectiveness.
- Submit a detailed report of the training.
III. Time line of the Consultancy
The trainings will be conducted in the month of September
IV. Reporting
The consultant will work under the direct supervision of Programme Manager, Health – AKF (P). The consultant is expected to produce a training report. This report should be submitted to Programme Manager, Health – AKF(P) no later than 7 working days after training is completed.
V. Main Deliverables
The Consultant shall submit report to AKF(P) within one week after completion of the training. The report shall include a brief description of the service, methodology employed to conduct the MIYCN training, results of the MIYCN training, staff capacity assessment, training outlines and the MIYCN action plan including conclusions and/or recommendations.
VI. Payment Plan
The following payment plan is proposed for the assignment:
i) 30% of the contract value as advance on signing of the contract.
ii) 40% of the contract value on completion of MIYCN training
iii) 30% of the contract value on submission of the final report.
Withholding tax will be deducted at source.
VII. Qualification and Experience
The prospective consultant is expected to demonstrate an appropriate balance of management and technical skills, knowledge of the region, and experience in MIYCN training. Key team should possess good communication, language and strong interpersonal skills. Qualifications of key representatives should include:
i) Master’s degree or above with specialization in Public Health, nutrition or related fields
ii) At least 7 years of relevant experience in conducting trainings.
iii) Familiarity with the policies, programs and operating modalities of the Government and AKDN will be desirable.

- Proposal of a maximum of 5 pages clearly demonstrating a thorough understanding of the ToRs.
