U.S. Mission Pakistan is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the Mason position in U.S. Consulate General, Karachi.
Basic Function of the Position – The Mason conducts a wide range of professional work for masonry construction, maintenance, and repairs at U.S. government-owned and leased facilities. The incumbent performs master craftsman-level functions related to all types of bricklaying, concrete block work, reinforced concreting, stonework, and surface finishes comprising tilling, sand-cement plaster, gypsum plaster, pave work, etc. The incumbent has experience in the concrete process and performs specific work for buildings' moisture protection, water proofing, and thermal insulation. The incumbent also provides coverage for emergency service for architectural elements as required. Works under the general supervision of the maintenance supervisor, engineer, and facilities manager.
Qualification Requirements:
Education: Completion of middle school (8 years of education) certificate is required.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience as a masonry/journeyman in any construction or industrial project work is required.
Job Knowledge: The incumbent must have the ability to understand and follow written instructions in English and Urdu. For the installation and upkeep of civil and architectural systems, it is necessary to be able to read construction drawings and have a solid grasp of industry standards. The incumbent should have an understanding of how to protect a building from humidity or water ingress. Occupational health and safety, the science of construction materials, guniting, and concrete, as well as working knowledge of thermal insulation, are also required.
Skills And Abilities: The incumbent must have the ability to use a variety of tools of the trade, such as concrete mixers, core drills, band saws, compactors, skid steer loaders, trenchers, etc. The ability to use power tools such as pneumatic hammers and concrete sprayers is required. Has to be physically capable of working outside in a warm and muggy climate. The incumbent should have basic math skills for simple calculations of area, volume, etc. and conversion of metric to foot-pound systems and vice versa. The incumbent should also be able to perform the paperwork involved in the completion of work orders and routine work. Skills and abilities may be tested.
